About my Studio

Teaching Philosophy

My approach as a private violin teacher is rooted in fostering a holistic understanding of music, where productive practice methods take precedence over number of hours spent with the instrument. I believe that developing effective problem-solving skills in my students not only enhances their musical abilities but also equips them with invaluable tools applicable to all areas of life.

While technical proficiency is certainly important, I place equal emphasis on nurturing a genuine curiosity and appreciation for music, aiming to instill a lifelong passion rather than mere mastery of violin technique. Beyond traditional classical technique and repertoire, I encourage exploration across a wide spectrum of musical genres, including modern pop, video game and movie soundtracks, and Disney melodies.

By tapping into students’ innate exploratory instincts, I strive to create an environment where each student feels empowered to express themselves creatively and develop a deep connection with the music they play. Through this approach, I aspire to not only cultivate skilled violinists but also well-rounded individuals who carry their love for music with them wherever they go.

A Little Bit About Me

With over five years of teaching experience and a private studio having served more than thirty families in the Spokane area, I focus on nurturing each student’s individual growth. My students have earned principal seats in school orchestras, earned individual awards, and perform with the Spokane Youth Symphony. I’m currently pursuing a B.A. in Music at Whitworth University with specialities in Violin Performance and String Pedagogy, supported by coursework in childhood psychology and education. With eleven years of violin experience, I’ve performed in various orchestras, chamber groups, and I’m a part of the award-winning American Quartet. I’ve been fortunate enough to share music at weddings, charity events, and on international stages.

"Samarah came as a recommendation to us from Dr. Philip Baldwin, Conductor of the Spokane Youth Symphony and Violin Professor and conductor of the Whitworth University Symphony Orchestra. My two children (ages 12 and 14) look forward to their lessons every week and gush about what they learned and how fun it was. They have grown immensely under her instruction. She inspires them, encourages them, and motivates them to choose their own adventure in the world of violin. She also shows up "off the clock" to their school performances whenever possible. Her passion for music is so apparent, as well as her own skill with the instrument too! We are so thankful to have her in our life and hope to keep her as long as possible!"

"I cannot speak highly enough of Samarah as a violin instructor. From the very first lesson, it was clear that she possesses not only an exceptional command of the instrument but also a rare gift for teaching. She balances technical precision with deep musical expression, helping students grow not just as violinists but as complete musicians."

"I would absolutely recommend anyone who wants to foster a love of music to begin lessons right away; she is very professional, communicates incredibly well, and is an absolute joy to be around (even if you're not the one taking lessons). Any teacher of anything could absolutely take notes from Samarah's gentle and supportive guidance."
